Road construction updates

Darwin Boulevard improvements
This project extends from Port St. Lucie Boulevard to Tulip Boulevard, and was completed and opened to the public in the summer of 2008. Overall improvements were made to the roadway system and swale drainage system, and additional sidewalks were installed. A turn lane into Parks Edge, off of Darwin Boulevard, was added to the project. The added sidewalks help with student pedestrians walking to Treasure Coast High School.

Palm City Corridor
This roadway improvement connects Port St. Lucie Boulevard to State Road 714 in Martin County, creating connectivity to Palm City with the Florida Turnpike and I-95. It also includes a new bridge over the C-23 Canal. The new road was completed and opened to the public on November 21, 2008.

Rosser Boulevard improvements south of Gatlin Boulevard
Rosser Boulevard was completed and opened to the public on June 25, 2008. The project was completed on time and on budget. The new four-lane section includes sidewalks, landscaping, and lighting, and a new signal at Aledo Lane.

Becker widening
This project is being re-designed to a four-lane divided roadway section with sidewalks, landscaping, and street lighting, all within the existing 100-foot right-of-way. The project is being designed and constructed in phases. Phase 1 is from I-95 to just east of Scope Street (east of Savona) and Phase 2 is from Scope Street to Florida’s Turnpike. Construction commenced on Phase 1 at the end of October 2008 and should be complete the end of April. The design of Phase 2 is 90 percent complete and has been submitted for applicable permits. In the meantime, temporary span wire signals have been installed to replace the flashers at the intersections of Becker Road with Port St. Lucie Boulevard and Darwin Boulevard in order to facilitate traffic.

Future road widenings
There is potential for another interchange and/or overpass bridge at I-95 in the region between Gatlin Boulevard and Becker Road. The exact location would not be known until the appropriate studies are performed and approved by the State of Florida Department of Transportation. At this time, we are not performing this work effort.

Other I-95 interchanges/overpasses with Interstate 95
There is potential for another interchange and/or overpass bridge at I-95 in the area between Gatlin Boulevard and Becker Road. The exact location will not be known until the appropriate studies are performed and approved by the State of Florida Department of Transportation. At this time, we have not undertaken this work effort.

Capital drainage project updates

Emergency storm water outfall connection to C-23 Canal
The project was completed in summer of 2008. This new emergency storm water discharge system is located just west of the turnpike, south of Becker Road. The system provides for additional discharge of storm water prior to and during extreme rainfall events to help alleviate flooding.

Emergency storm water outfall connection to C-24 Canal
This project was just recently completed. This new emergency storm water discharge system is located just west of the turnpike, south of the C-24 canal, and provides for additional storage and discharge of storm water prior to and during extreme rainfall events to help alleviate flooding.

A note on road and drainage projects

Many issues can affect the length of a project. Some of these include changes in the project or unforeseen problems encountered after work has commenced on the project. Other issues include weather and availability of material, supplies or manpower. Time lines are only approximations, especially when given on projects that will take years to complete.
